Man from Benque Viejo charged after investigation into alleged deception incident

By Belize Live News Staff: Police have brought charges against a 25-year-old man from Benque Viejo Town following an investigation into an Obtaining Property by Deception report made in October. The incident, lodged with police on October 23rd, triggered a follow-up investigation that led to the issuance of an arrest warrant this week.

On November 26th, investigators secured the warrant in the first instance and proceeded to formally arrest and charge Tyler Malcolm, a logger of Victoria Street. After being cautioned, Malcolm chose to remain silent, as is his constitutional right.

Police say the accused was informed of all legal rights and was permitted to make a phone call as requested. Details surrounding the original complaint have not been disclosed, but the case is now being prepared for court.

Police note that the charge of Obtaining Property by Deception is taken seriously as it involves dishonesty and financial loss to victims. The investigation remains ongoing.
