By Belize Live News Staff: Somebody thought the Old Cemetery in Orange Walk Town was the perfect hiding place. Police had other ideas.
Acting on intel, a joint team of officers from the San Roman SPU, Special Branch, GI3 and the Mobile Interdiction Unit swept the cemetery on Monday morning.
Beside an unpainted tomb, under a sheet of Plycem board, they found a yellow plastic bag. Inside, two T shirts were folded neatly, and wrapped inside the shirts was a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol.
The magazine was loaded with five live rounds. The serial number had been scraped clean off.
Nobody was around to claim it.
The gun is now sealed in an evidence box at the Orange Walk Police Station, and police want to know who left it there.
