By Belize Live News Staff: Authorities have launched an investigation into an alleged visa fraud case after an immigration officer at Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) detected a fake Belizean visa on a passenger arriving from Montenegro.
The traveler, 23-year-old Lazar Krivokapic, landed on a COPA Airlines flight and presented his passport for processing. However, immigration officials quickly flagged irregularities in the visa’s security features. A follow-up check at the Belmopan Immigration Headquarters revealed that Krivokapic had previously applied for a Belizean visa but was denied.
Further investigation led authorities to the airport’s exit area, where they found a 49-year-old man from Camalote Village waiting to pick up Krivokapic. The man, when questioned, provided a receipt for Krivokapic’s previous visa application, confirming that the visa had already been denied.
The matter was immediately escalated to Special Branch Police, and both Krivokapic and the Belizean resident were detained for questioning. Officials have since secured Krivokapic’s Montenegro passport, the suspected fraudulent visa, and supporting documents confirming the visa rejection.
Authorities are now working to determine the source of the fake visa and whether the case is linked to a larger visa fraud network. Investigations remain ongoing.
