By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceño landed in Honduras on Sunday to a red carpet and military honours, opening an official visit that puts a neighbour relationship back in focus.
He was received by Pamela Handal Rivera, Subsecretary of State for Foreign Policy, and is set to meet President Nasry Asfura.
Belize and Honduras share the Gulf of Honduras, a body of water that matters for fishing, shipping and marine conservation on both sides. Trade, migration and health cooperation are all live issues between the two countries.
The makeup of the Belizean delegation offers a hint at the agenda. Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard is on the trip, along with Julio Sabido, Chief Executive Officer in that ministry.
Also travelling are Narda Garcia from the Office of the Prime Minister and Oscar Arnold from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Government says the visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and finding areas for deeper collaboration.
