Department of Transport launches national enforcement operations to boost road safety

By Belize Live News Staff: The Department of Transport has initiated its National Enforcement Operations, beginning in the Corozal District and set to expand nationwide in the coming weeks, targeting widespread traffic law noncompliance.

During the first day of operations, 165 traffic violations were recorded, highlighting critical safety concerns. Infractions addressed included the use of cell phones while driving, exceeding speed limits, failure to wear seat belts, and unauthorized vehicle lighting, among others, as prescribed by the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act.

“This operation underscores our commitment to enforcing traffic regulations and promoting safer roads across Belize,” the department said in a statement, urging drivers to comply with all traffic laws.

The initiative comes amid heightened concerns over road safety and aims to reduce accidents by addressing key violations. The public is encouraged to adhere to regulations as enforcement measures intensify in other districts.
