By Belize Live News Staff: A delegation from Belize, led by National Emergency Coordinator Daniel Mendez, is participating in the 13th Caribbean Conference on Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM 13), held from December 2-6, 2024, at the Marriott Hotel in St. Kitts and Nevis. The conference, themed “Road to Resilience – Checkpoint 2024: Levelling Up for a Dynamic Future,” gathers experts, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss innovative strategies for disaster risk reduction and resilience-building in the Caribbean.
The Belize delegation includes representatives from NEMO, UNICEF, the National MET Service, UNDP, and Galen University. Key contributions include a presentation on child-centered shock-responsive systems and sessions on the Early Warning for All (EW4ALL) program. The delegation is also engaging with regional and international partners to explore technical and financial support for disaster resilience initiatives.
Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management, emphasized the importance of regional and global collaboration, stating, “Belize stands proudly as a Small Island Developing State committed to resilience. The impacts of climate change know no borders and comprehensive disaster management requires collective effort.”
Belize’s active participation highlights its dedication to advancing disaster risk reduction, climate action, and sustainable resilience in the face of increasing global challenges. The conference marks a huge step in regional solidarity, fostering innovation to address the growing threats posed by natural hazards and climate change.
