By Belize Live News Staff: Her two hands on a shower curtain were all that stood between her and the man pushing to get in. What happened at a Trial Farm Village home on Sunday morning has left a young woman injured, a household upended, and a man in a police cell.
The Belize Police Department reports that the young woman, with her mother at her side, made her report at the Trial Farm Police Station on Monday, July 20, 2026, describing an ordeal from the morning before.
She was home alone with her mother’s common-law husband, she told police, and went to bathe at about 10:00 a.m. A shadow crossed the doorway. She looked out to find the man coming toward the bathing room, which has no door, and she grabbed the shower curtain and held it as he struggled to push his way in, telling her in Spanish to let him bathe with her.
She did not let go. When he stepped away to close a window she had opened, she dressed in a rush and ran for her mother’s room, but he got there too, forcing in behind her, seizing her left hand, and pulling her toward him as she fought to get loose. His grip, she reported, left her arm in pain and scratches on her wrist.
She broke free and ran outside, into the sight of a neighbour who immediately offered her the safety of her own house. From that refuge she called her mother and waited.
The next day, a doctor certified her injuries as harm, and she asked police to take the matter to court. The man was detained, and with no charge yet laid, no names are being published, hers least of all.
