Belize Film Commission announces launch of International Film Festival

By Belize Live News Staff: The Belize Film Commission has officially announced the launch of a groundbreaking international film festival, Belize Film Xchange: Crossroads, set to debut in February 2025. This highly anticipated event will feature a week-long series of cinematic masterclasses and workshops, followed by three full days of film screenings. Designed to unite filmmakers and industry professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean, the festival aims to spotlight the region’s rich cultural and artistic diversity.

The inaugural theme, “Crossroads,” reflects Belize’s unique position as a cultural and geographical intersection of Latin America and the Caribbean. Through a carefully curated selection of films, seminars, and networking opportunities, the festival will provide a platform for creative dialogue and collaboration. The goal is to foster international cultural exchange and contribute to the growth of Belize’s creative economy.

Belize Film Commissioner and Festival Director Carlo Habet expressed his enthusiasm for the event, calling it a crucial initiative to support the country’s creative industries. “This project has been long in the making, and I am thrilled to bring it to life in 2025. It’s a critical time to support our creative industries, and I hope this annual event will serve as a catalyst for growing Belize’s creative economy and providing opportunities for artistic development.”

The festival will take place at The Bliss Centre for Performing Arts and other satellite venues, showcasing a diverse selection of films from the region. Leading up to the screenings, industry experts will host workshops and seminars in Belize City, offering invaluable education and mentorship to emerging talent.

Film submissions are now open, with the festival accepting entries from October 25 to November 25, 2024. Filmmakers are encouraged to apply via FilmFreeway. The event is made possible through the support of various partners, including the National Institute of Culture and History, Belize Tourism Board, Belize City Council, and the European Union in Belize.
