Motorcycle stop in Independence leads to insurance charge

By Belize Live News Staff: A routine police patrol in Independence Village ended with a 22-year-old woman facing a traffic charge.

Police say officers stopped a Skygo motorcycle around 10:25pm on Saturday after noticing that the passenger was not wearing a helmet.

During checks on the motorcycle, officers discovered that its insurance had expired on September 8.

The rider was informed that the motorcycle was not covered by valid third party risk insurance.

She was subsequently taken through the formal arrest process and charged with using a motor vehicle without the required insurance coverage.

Police have not indicated any additional charges arising from the stop.
