By Belize Live News Staff: A 17-year-old detainee was back in police custody on Sunday after an unusual escape from the Independence Polyclinic.
Police say the teenager had been detained in connection with a theft investigation and was taken from the Independence Police Station to the clinic for medical attention.
While there, he was permitted to use the restroom.
He allegedly escaped by climbing through a sliding glass window.
The search did not last long.
Police later received information that led them to Flamboyant Street, where the teenager was found hiding in a craboo tree.
He was safely removed and returned to custody, this time in connection with escaping lawful custody.
His mother was informed of the incident.
The teenager’s identity is being withheld because he is a minor.
