By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s Deputy Prime Minister, Cordel Hyde, is set to represent the nation at Taiwan’s Double Ten National Day celebrations in Taipei next week. Hyde’s visit highlights the strengthening of diplomatic ties between Belize and Taiwan, one of the few countries that maintains formal relations with Taiwan over China.
Accompanied by foreign dignitaries, including Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Deputy Prime Minister Montgomery Daniel and Guatemala’s First Lady Lucrecia Peinado, Hyde will engage in a series of high-level meetings with senior Taiwanese officials, including President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim.
The event, which commemorates the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan), will also provide an opportunity for the visiting dignitaries to gain insight into Taiwan’s achievements in areas such as semiconductors, public health, and creative industries. These discussions are expected to strengthen cooperation between Belize and Taiwan, particularly in key developmental sectors.
