Pistols, powder and a sniffer dog: 10 held in San Pedro raid

By Belize Live News Staff: A police dog named Axel sniffed out a hidden stash of guns and drugs in San Pedro on Wednesday, and now ten people are behind bars.

The Anti Narcotics Unit and K9 Unit hit a two storey house in the San Pedrito area around 7:30am with two search warrants in hand.

Downstairs came up clean. Upstairs was a different story.

Axel zeroed in on a clothes shelf squeezed between a shower and a washing machine. Officers pulled it away and found a black box packed with nine bags of suspected cocaine, 259 grams in total, plus two bags of suspected cannabis.

Tucked between the shower and the wall: two 9mm pistols, both loaded.

Police kept searching. In the ceiling, they found 332 grams of vacuum sealed suspected cannabis stuffed inside a school bag. Then came a Ziploc bag with a spare magazine and 34 more rounds of ammunition.

In total, police seized two guns, 43 rounds, over half a pound of cannabis and more than a quarter kilo of suspected cocaine.

Nine men, the youngest just 18, and a 53 year old woman were detained. Police say every one of them refused to sign the evidence packaging.

No charges yet. Stay tuned.
