50-year-old man remanded for raping and impregnating 12-year-old girl

By Belize Live News Staff: A 50-year-old man is behind bars tonight after being arraigned in court for the alleged rape and impregnation of a 12-year-old girl.

The accused appeared unrepresented before a magistrate on March 31, where he was formally charged with one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault. Due to the sensitive and serious nature of the crimes, no plea was taken, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

The disturbing allegations suggest a pattern of abuse that began in 2024. The victim reported that the suspect touched her inappropriately on two separate occasions that year. The situation escalated in April 2025 when the minor was allegedly raped while left in the suspect’s care.

Medical evidence provided to the court was grim. A doctor confirmed that the 12-year-old had been carnally known, classifying her physical injuries as grievous harm. Most tragically, the medical examination revealed that the young girl is now seven weeks pregnant.

The police have been investigating the matter since June 2025; however, formal charges were only levied earlier this week. The suspect has been ordered to remain on remand until his next scheduled court appearance on July 26, 2026.
