Belize braces for impact as Hurricane Beryl approaches

Dangerous Hurricane Beryl on track to hit Belize

By Belize Live News Staff: The National Meteorological Service of Belize has issued an advisory regarding the impending arrival of Hurricane Beryl. Despite the current sunny skies and intermittent showers gracing the country, a significant shift in weather is anticipated.

As of 6:00 AM today, the extremely dangerous Hurricane Beryl was located approximately 300 miles southeast of Isla Beata, Dominican Republic, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 22 mph, and its trajectory is being closely monitored by the NMS.

Coastal areas of Belize can expect choppy seas and waves reaching 3-5 feet, accompanied by easterly winds ranging from 10-15 knots. Temperatures along the coast will hover between 81 and 87 degrees Fahrenheit, while inland regions will experience slightly warmer conditions.

The NMS has issued a small craft caution, advising operators to exercise caution due to the potential for gusty winds and rough seas, particularly during heavy showers and thunderstorms.

While the forecast for Wednesday and Wednesday night indicates mainly fair weather with isolated showers or thunderstorms, residents are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to the advice of authorities as the situation unfolds.
