By Belize Live News Staff: Sixty Belizeans pursuing studies in health-related fields are now benefiting from a $1.1 million scholarship program made possible through a collaboration between the Government of Belize, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the University of Belize.
The initiative is part of a joint effort by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to strengthen Belize’s healthcare system by investing in local talent.
The scholarship recipients, enrolled in nursing, midwifery, and pharmacy programs, signed bonds that will allow them to continue and complete their studies. In return, they will serve the government and people of Belize for a specific number of years after graduation.
Government officials highlighted the investment as a step toward retaining and developing Belize’s healthcare workforce, ensuring that the country continues to train and employ skilled health professionals such as nurses, pharmacists, and midwives.
