Police identify ex-partner as arson suspect in fatal San Felipe fire

By Belize Live News Staff: A horrific house fire in San Felipe Village that claimed the lives of a mother and her young child is now being investigated as an intentional act of arson and murder. Police have issued an official report confirming that 34-year-old Francisco Godoy, the ex-common-law husband of one of the victims, is the primary suspect.

The tragedy unfolded around 3:00 a.m. on Monday when fire engulfed the wooden home of Angelita Majana. Ms. Majana and her 6-year-old son, Tishan Godoy, were trapped inside the blaze and perished.

According to the police investigation, Godoy, who is also Tishan’s father, allegedly entered the home as the family slept. It is believed he poured gasoline on them before setting them on fire.

A 17-year-old daughter, Shadia, managed to survive the inferno but sustained serious burns. She is currently recovering in the hospital.

Godoy also received burns during the commission of the alleged crime and is being treated at the Northern Regional Hospital, where he remains under police guard.

Police say their investigation is ongoing as they wait for the medical clearance necessary to interview the surviving daughter and the suspect.
