By Belize Live News Staff: Belize’s tourism sector is celebrating another milestone after Barefoot Services was recognized by the Global Tourism Excellence (GTE) Awards, becoming the nation’s only recipient for 2025.
The GTE Awards are internationally renowned for honoring authentic excellence in tourism, determined solely by verified customer reviews on platforms like TripAdvisor and Google. There are no applications, sponsorships, or paid campaigns; winners earn their titles through consistency, quality service, and genuine guest satisfaction.
The GTE Awards evaluate global tourism operators in categories such as Hotels, Tours & Activities, Restaurants, and Wellness Experiences. Barefoot Services’ inclusion places it among the world’s best, reaffirming Belize’s reputation for delivering world-class travel experiences backed by warmth and integrity.
Founded by Ian and Megs Yearwood, Barefoot Services has grown from a small car rental business into one of Belize’s most respected and innovative tourism companies, offering everything from shuttle transfers to custom adventure packages. Their approach emphasizes Belizean hospitality, professionalism, and community-driven values.
Beyond business success, Barefoot Services has also championed environmental and social initiatives. In August 2025, the company partnered with the Crocodile Research Coalition to organize the Battle of the Paddles, Placencia’s first-ever community kayak race. The event raised awareness about lagoon conservation while bringing locals and visitors together for a fun, eco-conscious experience.
Earlier this year, co-founder Megs Yearwood was also honored by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) in its “She Leads, We Celebrate” campaign, recognizing her as a trailblazing entrepreneur and mentor to young Belizeans entering the tourism field.
With this international recognition, Barefoot Services continues to position Belize on the global tourism map, proving that authenticity, passion, and dedication are the true hallmarks of excellence.
