By Belize Live News Staff: Former UDP minister John Saldivar has broken his silence on recent political attacks, saying he remains a “force to be reckoned with” despite his retirement from frontline politics.
In a social media statement shared on September 10th, Saldivar suggested that his influence in the party continues to unsettle rivals. “This appears to scare some people who want to attain power through the United Democratic Party,” he said.
Saldivar strongly defended his political record, particularly in Belmopan, which he described as “the envy of politicians who have followed me.” He criticized the use of “unproven allegations” to tarnish his reputation and said those who know him “will not be swayed by gutter politics.”
The former minister also warned of a dangerous trend within the UDP, which he labeled as “mafia-style, internecine politics.” He stressed that unless unity is restored, the UDP will never heal its divisions.
Saldivar closed by reaffirming his loyalty to Tracy Panton as the next UDP leader and urged the party to look to Belize’s history of unity as an example. “It is an ill wind that blows no good,” he said. “Someone is afraid of my influence even in retirement.”
