By Belize Live News Staff: Belize is looking to play a pivotal role in Central American infrastructure development following a high-level trilateral meeting with neighboring Mexico and Guatemala. The dialogue focused on deepening cross-border cooperation through transformative projects that blend connectivity, economic growth, and environmental stewardship.
Among the headline proposals was the extension of Mexico’s Tren Maya railway south into Belize and onward into Guatemala. Officials see the project as a game-changer for regional trade, tourism, and mobility.
Also under discussion was the planned construction of a strategic bridge across the Zaragoza Channel in northern Belize, which would connect parts of Ambergris Caye and improve transportation in one of the country’s busiest tourist regions.
Beyond infrastructure, the countries addressed environmental preservation through enhanced cooperation on a shared trinational nature reserve. The talks ended with a mutual agreement to form a task force and specialized technical committees to manage the design and execution of the proposed initiatives.
These developments signal a strong commitment by Belize, Mexico, and Guatemala to shape a more integrated and resilient regional future.
