By Belize Live News Staff: Leon Lamb has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following accusations that he tried to rape an 11-year-old girl. The incident allegedly took place after Lamb forcibly entered a home and assaulted the child’s grandparents before turning his attention to the minor.
Lamb appeared in court on Tuesday and requested that he not be detained, insisting that the allegations were not yet proven and pleading for leniency since he recently completed an 11-month prison sentence. His request was denied.
The prosecution strongly objected to bail, highlighting that Lamb currently faces two separate sex-related cases—one in the High Court and another in the Magistrate’s Court. They argued that allowing him bail would violate conditions from his previous case and pose a continued risk to the community.
Court records show that Lamb has prior convictions for sexual offenses, further strengthening the case against bail. The Chief Magistrate ultimately ruled that the severity of the charges and Lamb’s history made him unfit for release at this time.
He has been charged with multiple offenses, including burglary with intent to commit rape, wounding the child, injuring her grandfather, and causing harm.
