By Belize Live News Staff: The Ministry of Constitution and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs, and Transportation is taking a closer look at mounting traffic issues on Belize’s top island destinations.
Minister Dr. Hon. Louis Zabaneh and CEO Chester Williams held meetings this week with traffic committees from both Caye Caulker and San Pedro, bringing together officials to hear firsthand the challenges that locals face on the islands.
Traffic congestion has become a growing concern, especially as tourism and population continue to increase. At the meeting, representatives from both traffic committees highlighted the strain caused by limited infrastructure and the growing number of vehicles. In response, the Ministry committed to working closely with community leaders to craft realistic and effective solutions.
The discussions were supported by representatives from the Ministry of Rural Transformation and Local Government, as well as senior officials from the Department of Transport including Chief Transport Officer Leon Gentle and Director of Local Government Clifford King.
“This meeting underscores our commitment to fostering effective collaboration with local stakeholders,” said Dr. Zabaneh. “Their input is crucial to improving the traffic situation and promoting long-term sustainable transport.”
The Ministry will now begin reviewing the feedback and drafting recommendations tailored to each island’s needs. Islanders are hopeful that real improvements are on the horizon.
