Student loses $690 in alleged online iPad scam in Orange Walk

By Belize Live News Staff: A 21-year-old student from San Estevan Village, Orange Walk District, has reported being defrauded in an online sale involving an electronic device.

According to reports, the student came across a Facebook page advertising an 11th Generation iPad for $690.00 and initiated contact with the seller. She was later directed to continue communication via WhatsApp, where she was informed that a deposit was required to secure the item.

On April 17, 2026, she transferred $350.00 to a local bank account. A few days later, the seller claimed that the item had arrived and provided photos, requesting the remaining balance. The student then sent an additional $340.00, bringing the total amount paid to $690.00.

Arrangements were made for the item to be collected; however, the iPad was never received.

The matter was reported to police, who have since launched an investigation into the suspected case of obtaining property by deception.
