By Belize Live News Staff: Cordel Hyde will be in charge of the country for the next week.
The Deputy Prime Minister will hold over as Prime Minister while John Briceño travels to Bangkok, Thailand, for meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
Briceño left Belize on Saturday and is expected back on Sunday, October 18.
The meetings bring together finance leaders, central bankers and development officials from around the world to discuss the global economy, development financing and other key issues.
The trip comes during a busy period at home, following a Cabinet reshuffle this week, ongoing tensions with Guatemala and continued scrutiny over Government procurement.
Hyde, who also serves as Minister of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining, made headlines last weekend when he told PUP supporters that ministers sometimes get swell headed and forget who put them in office.
