By Belize Live News Staff: Hurricane Isaias is gaining power in the Gulf of Mexico, but Belize remains out of harm’s way.
According to the National Meteorological Service, at 6:00am the hurricane was located about 245 miles south of Pensacola, Florida, near latitude 27.0 North and longitude 87.7 West.
Isaias was moving north northeast at 15 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 110 mph.
The storm has strengthened quickly over the past few days. On Wednesday, it was a tropical storm with 40 mph winds. By Thursday, it had become a hurricane with 80 mph winds, and it has continued to intensify since.
Forecasters say Isaias poses no direct threat to Belize as it moves away from the region.
At home, moist and unstable conditions remain. Friday will be sunny with cloudy spells. Light rain is expected over the south this morning, and inland areas could see a few showers and thunderstorms this afternoon.
Overnight, isolated showers and storms are possible, with the north having a slightly higher chance of rain.
