Barefoot man allegedly runs off with 50 pounds of onions

Barefoot man allegedly runs off with 50 pounds of onions

By Belize Live News Staff: A Concepcion Village businesswoman was on her way to open her stall at 7:30 on a Sunday morning when she spotted a man running from it.

Black t-shirt. Blue jeans. Barefoot. A sack on his back.

He was about 30 feet away, and she recognised him immediately. She has known him for over 10 years, and she told police he has stolen from her several times before.

She gave chase in her vehicle. When he noticed her, he cut into the bushes with the sack and was gone.

Back at the stall she checked the cultivation behind it, where she grows onions and other produce. One 50 pound sack of yellow onions was missing. Value, $100.

She did not make the report right away. She waited until she heard he was in police custody, then went in on Tuesday to file it formally.

Amir Pineda, 38, of Concepcion Village, had already been detained on August 29 over a separate theft.

He was charged in this matter on Tuesday and chose to remain silent.
