By Belize Live News Staff: In a show of regional solidarity, Prime Minister John Briceño has offered Belize’s assistance to Venezuela as the country recovers from a series of catastrophic earthquakes, including a pledge to send Belizean linesmen to help bring back electricity.
The Prime Minister shared the news on social media, revealing that he had spoken directly with Venezuela’s Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, who has been serving as the country’s acting president. He said he assured her that Belize stands with the Venezuelan people and is ready to assist, specifically mentioning the deployment of Belizean linesmen to help restore power in the aftermath of the disaster.
The offer follows the powerful twin earthquakes that rocked northern Venezuela, in what has been described as the country’s strongest seismic event in more than a hundred years. The quakes left a trail of destruction, with lives lost, buildings flattened, and essential services, including electricity, severely disrupted.
In the days following the tragedy, Briceño had already voiced Belize’s sympathy for those affected. He extended the country’s deepest condolences to the people and Government of Venezuela, noting that in moments of crisis, nations are reminded that their shared humanity is stronger than any challenge nature can bring.
For Belize, the willingness to step forward and help, despite being a small nation itself, speaks to a deeper sense of compassion and regional kinship. As Venezuela faces the enormous task of rebuilding, the support and solidarity from Belize offer a meaningful reminder that it does not stand alone.
