By Belize Live News Staff: A Belize Coast Guard officer has been arrested and formally charged following a violent domestic attack that left a young police constable hospitalized. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on Gibnut Street, when police responded to a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers found 24-year-old Police Constable Jessica Pou unresponsive and suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the KHMH for emergency treatment. Once stabilized, Pou told investigators that around 3:35 a.m., she and her common-law partner, 25-year-old Coast Guardsman Brian Chiac, were involved in an argument that escalated into violence. According to Pou, Chiac stabbed her several times and threatened to kill her.
Following the investigation, police arrested Chiac and charged him with Attempted Murder, Use of Deadly Means of Harm, and Wounding. The case highlights yet another deeply troubling instance of domestic violence involving members of the security forces.
Chiac is expected to be arraigned in court as the investigation continues.
