By Belize Live News Staff: Prime Minister John Briceño is calling for stronger international cooperation to ensure Belize does not become vulnerable to cartel infiltration.
During remarks at a public event in Cayo, the Prime Minister acknowledged the ongoing threat posed by organized crime groups operating in the region.
He stated that while Belize has not seen cartels operating inside the Free Zone, authorities continue to monitor the area closely to safeguard citizens.
Briceño underscored the need for additional resources, including equipment, intelligence-sharing, and training support from the United States.
He cautioned that without adequate resources, Belize could face serious consequences in the future if criminal networks establish a foothold in the country.
The government says it remains committed to strengthening law enforcement capacity and border security.
