By Belize Live News Staff: Following the sudden resignation of former Agriculture Minister Jose Mai on Monday, Prime Minister John Briceño has formally reassigned the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries to Minister Rodwell Ferguson. The updated assignments were detailed in an official Cabinet adjustments release issued on November 18.
Ferguson is now responsible for the government’s food security agenda, agricultural development programs, and the oversight of New Growth Industries, a key component of Belize’s economic diversification efforts. He will work alongside Minister of State Alex Balona, who retains responsibility within the ministry.
The Cabinet reshuffle is part of broader adjustments implemented by the Prime Minister to ensure smooth governance and uninterrupted delivery of national services. The published list outlines updated responsibilities across 18 ministries, including foreign affairs, health, tourism, and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that the new structure reinforces the administration’s commitment to stability and effective public service delivery.
