By Belize Live News Staff: While Belize is experiencing moist and unstable weather bringing showers and thunderstorms, the National Meteorological Service has confirmed that Hurricane Imelda poses no threat to the country.
At 6:00 a.m., Hurricane Imelda was located near latitude 32.9N, longitude 60.9W, approximately 230 miles east of Bermuda. The storm is moving east-northeast at 30 mph with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph, making it a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale. It is projected to continue moving away from the Caribbean basin, keeping Belize well outside of its path.
Meanwhile, Belizeans should still prepare for intermittent showers and thunderstorms throughout today and tonight as unstable air lingers over the region. Farmers, commuters, and those in flood-prone areas are encouraged to stay alert, as even isolated storms can bring heavy downpours in short bursts.
The tide chart indicates a high tide at 5:31 a.m., a low at 1:15 p.m., and another high at 7:22 p.m. Tomorrow morning, a low tide will occur at 12:24 a.m. Sunrise was at 5:43 a.m., and sunset is expected at 5:40 p.m.
Looking forward, forecasters say Friday and Friday night will see similar conditions, with showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing across much of the country.
