Customs officers to face criminal charges after marijuana bust

By Belize Live News Staff: Two customs officers are expected to be formally charged today in connection with the seizure of more than 100 pounds of marijuana earlier this year at the Belize City Customs headquarters.

The pair, identified as siblings, will reportedly face drug trafficking charges following a months-long investigation. This is considered one of the rare instances in recent years where customs officials themselves have been directly implicated in a major narcotics case.

Authorities have been reviewing the matter for over five months amid concerns about corruption within customs operations. Formal details of the charges are expected to be made public once they are read in court.
