Cabinet updated on Caye Caulker cannabis referendum preparations

By Belize Live News Staff: Minister of the Public Service, Governance and Disaster Risk Management, Henry Charles Usher, informed Cabinet that the Elections and Boundaries Department has completed all necessary procedures for the conduct of the referendum on the island of Caye Caulker.

The referendum is scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Registered voters on the island will be asked to voice their opinion on whether the Government of Belize should pass legislation to create a responsible, regulated, and taxable legal cannabis industry on Caye Caulker.

According to the update, a portion of the revenue generated from the industry would directly benefit Caye Caulker and its residents.
