By Belize Live News Staff: Police have confirmed that a 26-year-old police officer has been arrested and charged with rape after a 22-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted.
The alleged incident took place on Friday night, September 26, around 11:30 p.m., while the woman was on her way home after socialising with friends and family. She reported that she accepted a ride from the officer, during which she was sexually assaulted.
In response to questions from the press regarding the officer’s identity, the Belize Police Department stated: “To protect the victim’s identity, the officer’s name will not be released.”
The department emphasized that the matter is being treated seriously and is now before the judicial process.
