By Belize Live News Staff: The Office of the Ombudsman has formally submitted its Annual Report 2024 to the National Assembly, in keeping with the Ombudsman Act. The report was officially laid on the Table on Friday, 12 September 2025.
On Wednesday, 17 September 2025, the Ombudsman appeared before the Ombudsman Report Committee to present the findings, recommendations, and systemic issues raised in the report.
According to the document, the Office received and processed a wide range of complaints last year. These included matters of maladministration, delays in service delivery, abuse of authority, neglect of duty, and failures to follow procedures. The report also highlighted which government departments and public authorities were most frequently cited in the complaints.
Among the significant issues noted were oversight during States of Emergency, the visit of the Ombudsman of Barbados, and special reports on systemic concerns, including the neglect of mental health care within the Belize Coast Guard.
To ensure transparency, the Ombudsman announced a national media round from 30 September to 3 October 2025. During these sessions, the public will be briefed on the findings and recommendations of the 2024 Annual Report.
Copies of the report are available on the official Ombudsman website and at libraries countrywide.
