By Belize Live News Staff: A police officer is recovering after being stabbed during a violent altercation outside a nightclub in Belmopan early Friday morning.
The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Oliver Jiron, a resident of Belmopan City. Reports indicate that Jiron, who was socializing at the establishment in the company of a taxi driver, stepped outside around 1:19 a.m. to change his shirt when he was ambushed by four men.
The group reportedly beat and stabbed him during the assault, leaving Jiron with a stab wound to his right shoulder. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening.
A good Samaritan witnessed the incident and rushed Jiron to the Western Regional Hospital, where he received medical treatment and was later discharged.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, and no arrests have been made at this time. Police continue to appeal to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the assailants.
