By Belize Live News Staff: Convicted murderer William “Danny” Mason has been handed an additional prison sentence that could keep him incarcerated until the age of 105.
Mason, now 55 years old, was sentenced this week to two 24-year terms for the 2016 kidnapping of Mennonite couple Lloyd and Rosie Friesen. Although the sentences will run concurrently, Justice Nigel Pilgrim ruled that the new 24-year sentence will only commence after Mason completes his current sentence for the high-profile murder of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas.
Mason was 50 years old when he was handed a 35-year sentence for Lucas’ murder, a term that factored in four years he had already spent on remand. That means his earliest eligibility for parole on the murder charge is July 2051—when Mason will be 81.
If granted parole at that time, Mason’s 24-year kidnapping sentence would then kick in, pushing his release year to 2075. At that point, he would be 105 years old.
Mason, who once moved through elite circles and operated under several aliases including Rajesh Persaud and Ted Oulett, now faces the very real possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison.
