By Belize Live News Staff: Farmers in San Miguel Village are under attack — not from weather or disease, but rats. Local farmer Ray Cal says “small brown rats are just everywhere,” tearing through his fields and devouring fresh corn seeds, uprooting young shoots, and even chewing through pumpkin stems.
Cal described the situation as “strange and sad,” blaming unusual weather patterns and debris-based planting for what he calls the worst rodent invasion he’s ever seen.
With crops wiped out before they even sprout, Toledo farmers are facing a growing threat — one bite at a time.
