Hyde family divided over online post linking pageant to past tragedy

By Belize Live News Staff: A public Facebook post made by Sylvian Hyde, referencing the 2012 murder of his uncle James Hyde, has sparked online attention and prompted a quick response from other members of the Hyde family.

In the post, Sylvian expressed frustration over what he described as “silence” surrounding the murder and suggested that political protection may have obstructed justice. He linked his commentary to the recent Miss Universe Belize pageant, where Monisha Hyde, daughter of the late James Hyde, was named first runner-up. “What do we do when justice wears makeup and betrayal wears a crown?” Sylvian wrote.

However, the post was met with disapproval from within the family. Catherine McKay, speaking on behalf of Monisha and her immediate relatives, issued a public statement distancing them from the sentiments expressed.

“We do not support or stand by this post in any way,” McKay wrote. “The matter mentioned is and always has been a police matter, and we trust the proper authorities to handle it as they see fit.”

McKay emphasized that the family remains proud of Monisha and the young women who participated in the pageant, calling them “graceful” and “strong.” She added that the family
