By Belize Live News Staff: Iran has denied claims by U.S. President Donald Trump that a ceasefire agreement has been reached between Iran and Israel. The announcement came after Trump stated earlier today that both nations had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” set to begin within six hours.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi swiftly dismissed the claim, stating in a post on X (formerly Twitter), “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around. As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”
The contradiction between Trump’s announcement and Tehran’s official stance has deepened international confusion, with analysts cautioning that misinformation or premature declarations could further inflame an already volatile situation in the Middle East.
Trump’s initial claim also suggested that both sides were completing their “final missions” before the ceasefire would take full effect and that the conflict would be officially declared over 24 hours after the truce began.
There has been no immediate comment from Israeli officials.
For Belizeans, this ongoing conflict—and the uncertainty surrounding supposed diplomatic developments—holds regional and economic relevance. With rising fuel prices, global instability, and increasing geopolitical tension, events in the Middle East continue to ripple through small economies like Belize.
