By Belize Live News Staff: A man is now before the courts after a routine debt collection allegedly spiralled into a violent machete chase in Bladen Village, Toledo District.
Police say the matter began on Sunday, June 28, 2026, when the son of Francisco Sho went to the home of a 19-year-old farmer to collect a $25 debt on his father’s behalf. According to the farmer, he told the young man he would settle the amount on his next payday, and the visitor left without incident.
What happened next, however, took a frightening turn. The farmer reported that roughly five minutes later, Francisco Sho slipped into his yard with a machete in hand and lunged at him, swinging the blade. Fearing for his safety, the farmer said he bolted from the property, with Sho chasing close behind and continuing to swing the weapon, until he finally outran him.
After receiving the report at the Bella Vista Police Station, officers recorded a statement, visited the scene, and requested court action. Francisco Sho, a 40-year-old Belizean labourer of Bladen Village, was then arrested and charged with aggravated assault. He opted to remain silent after being cautioned.
Sho is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law.
