Cuban Medical Brigade programme in Belize comes to an end

By Belize Live News Staff: The agreement that has brought Cuban doctors and health workers to Belize for more than three decades will not be renewed.

In a press release issued on October 31, the Government of Belize said it and Cuba have decided not to continue the arrangement under which the Cuban Medical Brigade has served in Belize since 1990.

However, the Cuban professionals already working in Belize will not be leaving.

Government says the Ministry of Health and Wellness will sign individual employment contracts with each Cuban professional, allowing them to remain in Belize and continue working in the public health system.

Government said the move is meant to ensure there is no disruption in the delivery of medical services.

It also assured the public of its commitment to providing professional medical care through both Belizean and foreign health professionals for the wellbeing of all Belizeans.
