By Belize Live News Staff: Despite ongoing talks with government ministers, the Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has served a 21-day strike notice, signaling its intent to take industrial action if salary demands are not met.
The union, backed by the Joint Unions, is calling for a wage increase and the unfreezing of increments. Talks have been underway, but BNTU says the government’s failure to address the cost of living crisis has left them no choice.
In its official letter, BNTU said the action is due to “disappointment and dissatisfaction with the Government’s refusal to consider the Joint Unions’ request for a salary adjustment.” The union is demanding continued negotiations toward workable and reasonable solutions.
