Women honored for trailblazing work in Belize’s Tourism Industry

By Belize Live News Staff: In a powerful close to Women’s History Month, the Belize Tourism Board hosted “She Leads, We Celebrate” to recognize 25 women making waves in the country’s tourism industry. The evening emphasized unity and growth through the achievements of women across cultural preservation, hospitality, and adventure tourism.

Held at the Biltmore Plaza, the event combined storytelling, networking, and panel discussions. Women like Lucy Fleming, a pioneer in eco-tourism, and Timotea Mesh, founder of the San Antonio Women’s Cooperative, spoke of their determination and challenges faced in male-dominated spaces.

A recurring message was the importance of passing the torch—creating opportunities for young women and ensuring tourism remains inclusive and representative of Belize’s rich cultural landscape.

BTB says the annual campaign will continue to grow, becoming a fixture in national efforts to empower women in business and tourism.
