By Belize Live News Staff: The Shadow Cabinet, led by Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow, has raised alarm over critical national issues, including government corruption, neglect of key sectors, and challenges arising from mass deportations. In a meeting on January 21, the opposition outlined its concerns over systemic failures that are impacting Belizeans nationwide.
Among the topics discussed was the closure of the Port Loyola Polyclinic, a move seen as gross negligence by the Ministry of Health. While funding is being directed to private clinics, public health infrastructure is crumbling. The shadow UDP Cabinet also criticized the deteriorating state of sporting facilities, describing them as neglected by the National Sports Council and the Minister of Sport.
In light of U.S. deportation policies, Barrow emphasized the need for Belize to prepare for economic shocks and labor force adjustments. The Shadow UDP Cabinet vowed to address these challenges in upcoming joint press briefings.
