By Belize Live News Staff: Elevated river levels have prompted the suspension of all water-related activities at the Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave, one of Belize’s most iconic archaeological attractions. The Institute of Archaeology (IA) under NICH Belize announced the closure early this morning, citing visitor safety concerns amid increased flooding risks.
Despite the ATM Cave suspension, Belize’s other archaeological reserves remain fully open to visitors. Tour operators and guides have been urged to exercise caution and stay alert as conditions could change rapidly. The IA/NICH has assured ongoing monitoring of the situation and pledged timely updates to the public.
The ATM Cave, celebrated for its ancient Maya artifacts and crystal-clear underwater passages, draws thousands of visitors each year. Authorities emphasize that the temporary suspension is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of all visitors and staff.
