Amado Alexander Badillo charged with fraud over undelivered car

By Belize Live News Staff: Amado Alexander Badillo, owner of Prestige Auto Sales, appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, facing a charge of obtaining property by deception. Badillo entered a plea of not guilty before Chief Magistrate Jayani Wegodapola.

The case stems from allegations by Ladyville resident Theresa Ismar Flores, who reported paying Badillo a total of $14,000 on November 21, 2023, for a black 2018 Ford Focus. Flores claims Badillo promised delivery within 2-3 weeks, but the car was never provided.

Prosecutors did not oppose bail, and Badillo was released on $10,000 bail, which could be met with one surety of the full amount or two sureties of $5,000 each. Under the bail conditions, Badillo must refrain from contacting Flores and must avoid any new legal infractions while the case proceeds.

Badillo contested the accusations during the hearing, stating that Flores currently has one of his vehicles as a temporary loan while awaiting the delivery of the purchased car. The prosecutor clarified that any further communication between the parties must involve an intermediary to ensure compliance with the bail terms.

The case adds to ongoing scrutiny of business practices in Belize’s auto sales sector. Developments in the matter will be closely monitored.
