By Belize Live News Staff: Passy Haylock, owner of Gully Grill and founder of the #JustADollar campaign, has announced the initiative will end on December 20, 2024, after facing personal attacks from family members of the San Ignacio accident victims it aimed to help.
What began as a widely supported effort to cover medical bills and funeral expenses took a bitter turn. Haylock revealed that criticism from two family members shifted the focus away from the campaign’s mission. “Instead of focusing on the memory of their loved ones, they focused on money,” he shared, adding that the emotional toll has left him physically drained. “I’ve barely slept or eaten since this started.”
Despite the controversy, Haylock has already begun distributing funds to the affected families and remains grateful for the community’s generosity. To close the campaign, he is hosting a final fundraiser at Gully Grill this weekend, featuring live music and food, with all proceeds going to the victims.
“This is about helping families recover,” Haylock said, urging the public to show up for one last act of solidarity.
The announcement has sparked mixed reactions, but many continue to praise Haylock’s efforts. The final fundraiser is expected to draw a strong crowd, bringing the #JustADollar story to a bittersweet close.
