By Belize Live News Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has issued an official statement distancing itself from the upcoming New Alliance Party (NAP) convention scheduled for October 20th. UDP leadership clarified that the event is not recognized, sanctioned, or approved by the UDP.
The announcement emphasized that the NAP convention is solely intended to confirm the leadership of the NAP and is not connected with any official UDP affairs. “We must not allow a breakaway faction to manipulate the Party’s Constitution for personal agendas,” stated the UDP notice, reiterating the Party’s commitment to uphold its principles and the integrity of its internal processes.
UDP leaders reminded members, standard-bearers, and delegates of their responsibility to remain loyal to the Party’s ideals. “The legal framework of Belize does not govern or amend the UDP Constitution,” the statement explained. The UDP’s internal rules serve exclusively to guide its operations, independent of parliamentary validation or judicial interpretation.
The UDP message urged its supporters to stay focused and to ignore any attempts by the NAP to disrupt Party unity. “The UDP structure will remain steadfast after October 20th, regardless of NAP’s emergence as an independent entity,” it added.
In the final remarks, Alberto O. August, Vice Chairman of the UDP, encouraged all members to align with the elected leadership of the Party and communicate this message to their constituency committees and delegates.
“Stay with your United Democratic Party,” August concluded, reaffirming the Party’s commitment to maintaining unity and resisting external distractions.
This notice comes as the UDP navigates internal challenges while asserting its focus on governance and upholding democratic ideals. The leadership encourages members to focus on the Party’s mission and avoid being swayed by any disruptive narratives.
