Religious leader Victor Wagner Hernandez charged with rape, granted $10,000 bail

By Belize Live News Staff: Victor Wagner Hernandez, the 65-year-old president of the National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB), has been charged with serious sex crimes, casting a shadow over the religious organization.

On Wednesday morning, Hernandez was arraigned in Punta Gorda Magistrate Court on charges of rape and sexual assault involving a 35-year-old woman. Given the seriousness of the charges and Hernandez’s age, bail was initially denied. However, after reviewing the circumstances, Magistrate Thompson granted bail at $10,000. Hernandez is expected to adhere to strict bail conditions while the case proceeds.

NEAB swiftly responded to the allegations, stating that Hernandez has been removed from his position pending the investigation. The organization also extended support to the victim, emphasizing the importance of counseling and healing through licensed trauma therapists. The case is ongoing.
