By Belize Live News Staff: On Thursday, two new Rudimentary Water Systems were inaugurated in the Toledo District, marking a major improvement in water infrastructure for Blue Creek Village and San Vicente Village. The upgrades provide enhanced access to clean, reliable water for hundreds of residents in these rural communities.
At Blue Creek Village, the new system includes the construction of a storage facility with four donated tanks and the connection of a new well to the existing water system, ensuring a safer and more consistent supply of water. A new pump house was also built with critical electrical upgrades to enhance the system’s reliability. In addition, the distribution network was expanded with new pipes. During the inauguration, water meters valued at over $30,000 were handed over to the community to improve water management.
Meanwhile, in San Vicente Village, a ceremony was held under the shade of trees near the village’s natural water source to celebrate the completion of their rehabilitated water system. This project included the installation of two additional tanks, increasing storage capacity, and the construction of a larger water gallery (catchment) to enhance water supply. New pipes were also provided to expand the network for future growth, with ongoing efforts to secure and fence the water source.
These initiatives were made possible through the collaboration of the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government, in partnership with UNICEF Belize and funding from the Republic of Korea.
The completion of these projects represents a significant step forward in addressing the water needs of rural communities in the Toledo District.
